Waikato Coastal Flood Hazards

Driving across the Hauraki Plains last week reminded me of this paper I co-authored, on the management of coastal flood hazards in the Waikato Region. David Ray and I described the measures that were being initiated, or contemplated, using the recently enacted Resource Management Act 1991. We spoke of landuse planning for managing the residual risk of stopbanked flood protection systems, planning for overdesign, and planning for future sea level rise - matters that are as relevant to management of floodplains today as they were when we wrote the paper more than 30 years ago.
